Last night, Jessica and I had a great time without spending too much money!

First, a little background. Whenever we can, the Mrs. and I sign up for loyalty clubs or coupon programs from our local restaurants. One of our local favorites is Uno's Chicago Bar and Grill. As part of their Insider's Club, we receive $10 off coupons all the time with no purchase required and various other perks. This week in our email, we received an offer to buy one entree, get one free.

Excited to head out the door, we went to print our promotional email but found both our printers were broken. We were both hungry, but did our best to follow our own advice from Chapter 4 of our relationship advice book regarding Laugh, Don't B**ch. After 30 minutes of playful techno-struggle, we achieved success and had our coupon in hand!

After a great $12 meal (which included a steak for me), we came back home to our stuffed DVR and snuggled up for a TV marathon. Microwaved popcorn and a home-made sundae dessert kept things interesting throughout the evening. One tip we like to follow while glued to the tube: always make eye contact with each other during commercials and strike up a conversation. Remember - this is togetherness time!

So, have fun and remember that the best things in life are free... well, cheap!

What do you have planned with your loved one this weekend?

Every morning, I get both my daily horoscope and my daily romantic horoscope sent directly to my email. I don't usually put too much stock in what they say, but every now and again, something poignant pops up and surprises me. Of course, I found this one, which was in my email this morning, to be incredibly poignant:

"For a lesson in 'Relationships 101,' watch how older married couples approach problems. Do they immediately deal with the matter at hand or wait and see? Take notes."

This is absolutely fantastic advice - advice that Aaron and I have heeded since day one of our relationship. We've had both great examples and horrific examples from older couples in our lives, and we have certainly taken notes. One couple in particular, we'll just call them L & S to protect their identities, are one of the most amazing examples we've ever known. They've been married for at least 30 years and they still interact as if they are newlyweds. They approach their problems as a team. When they are upset with one another, they use kind, loving tones to express their frustration. They don't generalize with things like "You always," or "You never." Basically, they've got communication down to a perfect science.

Chapters 6 and 7 of The Happiest Couple on the Block take a page (or ten) out of L & S's playbook. To learn more about how long-term happy couples approach problems in their lives, check out the book!

This morning, Jessica and I took a mini date to our local Target.

Odd place for a date perhaps, but boy did we have fun. After picking up our necessities, we decided to wander over to their holiday section. The featured holiday was, of course, Halloween! We were delighted to find an aisle filled with fun adult costumes, which we proceeded to try on over our clothes. We got a few funny looks, but mostly we had people chuckling at our silliness, especially when we decided to turn it into a photo shoot with our cell phones. Not only did we have a great time, but we brought laughter to others and have picture documentation so we never forget that magic moment!

Always remember that even the most mundane of everyday chores can be great fun if you do them together. And don't be afraid to be silly - you'll never see those other shoppers again.
